The H.O.W. Concept

  • OA/HOW meetings offer a disciplined and structured approach to the compulsive eater and are based in the belief that our disease is absolute, and therefore, only absolute acceptance of the OA/HOW program will offer any sustained abstinence to those of us whose compulsion has reached a critical level. Our meetings are dedicated to remaining honest, open-minded, and willing to listen. This is the “H” “O” “W” of the program.
  • We accept the following suggestions as essential for the recovery of the compulsive eater whose disease has progressed to a critical level:
    • 1. Use a common plan of eating, subject to the direction of your physician.
    • 2. Confer with your sponsor on a close daily basis for a minimum of thirty days.
    • 3. Continue communicating with your sponsor as needed thereafter.
    • 4. Use the “Tools of Recovery” on a daily basis.
  • Our Tools of Recovery are a Food Plan, Sponsorship, Telephone, Literature, Writing, Anonymity, Meetings, and Service. We use the Alcoholics Anonymous “Big Book” and the Alcoholics Anonymous Twelve and Twelve as our primary texts although we also use a variety of other literature as well, including OA literature. We are a registered group of Overeaters Anonymous.
  • We meet in Fort Worth Thursday nights from 6:45 – 7:45 PM. For more information, please visit Meetings and look for the OA/HOW meeting on Thursday night.
